Odd One Out: Behind The Name

26 February 2014

Yesterday I introduced you all to Odd One Out's new Twitter. What I didn't mention is that one of the reasons I had waited so long to create a Twitter for the blog, was because I wasn't 100% sure I wanted to keep the name of the blog. I mean, what if I wanted something different? What if I had some sort of blog-name epiphany and I couldn't change it because I would be stuck in some weird, internet purgatory?

So then I started thinking about why I named the blog Odd One Out in the first place, and after that, I decided I'd keep it.

So, why am I named Odd One Out?

When I first started the blog last year, I was sick of failed attempts at New Years resolutions, so I thought I would change it up in 2013. I made a list of goals, and in order to keep myself accountable, I started the blog. You can read all about it in my very first blog post ever.

In the post I mentioned that I love odd numbers; nobody likes odd numbers. No one likes to be the third wheel, no one likes to go to an amusement park with an odd number of people because then someone always has to be the lone ranger on a ride, and who wants just one, single sock? I like to root for the underdog, and odd numbers are the underdog.

From there it just kind of evolved into this. I'm the first person to admit I'm a bit of an odd ball, and more often than not, feel like the "odd one out" in situations, but instead of getting down about it, I chose to embrace it.

That's why I kept the name. We're all a little odd, but on here, we're somehow not the odd one out. How cool is that?

Tootlepip!

  1. I always love finding out why people named their blogs what they did! I don't like being the odd one out, but 13 is my favorite number :) xo
