There's this new video that's been making it's way around the webisphere by these really talented musicians who go by the name of The Piano Guys.

You guys know how much I love music, so watching these talented guys play the whole song on a piano (save for their "paper" drum) really got my gears going! It's such an incredible talent celebrating the Christmas season! Take a look, share and thumbs up the video!

Don't judge me but, Nicholas Sparks. I actually enjoy reading his books because I can breeze through them so quickly.

Best sequel ever.
Recently I'd have to go with Catching Fire from The Hunger Games trilogy. It's actually my favourite of the three. All time though I'm going to have to say Harry Potter, because the series got me into reading as a kid, plus it's HP, duh.

HAH. Yeah right. Me? Date in high school? I was too big a nerd. But if I were a total babe back then I would certainly have to go with the same answer as Kristin. Jon Snow. Because he knows nothing, and due to me being a complete nerd, I'm certain I know everything.

Warm Bodies. Not into zombie books, but I really enjoyed this one.

Hidden gem book.
The Guernsey Literary and the Potato Peel Pie Society. Longest book title, right? It's a small book, but soooo good. Especially if you enjoy books that are set during war times.

Important moment in your reading life.
I remember picking up The Diary of Anne Frank when I was a kid and just crying in my room about how they were being treated. I had never understood World War II to great extent because I was so young, but reading the true story of a girl that was there put things into perspective. It changed my life.

Just finished.
The Hobbit! It took me a while, but I did it!

Kinds of books you won't read.
I stand by trying to give books a chance (see Warm Bodies), but I do limit myself to some books. I will never read Fifty Shades of Grey, or anything like it, including Twilight. Also I don't particularly like Jodi Picoult novels either..

Longest book you've ever read.
At 766, Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix takes the prize. Thanks Goodreads.

Major book hangover because of...
The Fault in Our Stars. I read it in a weekend so I felt like I was just chill in' out with Gus and Hazel and then all of a sudden I wasn't. Bummer.

Number of bookcases you own.
Technically two. Jess and I share one bookcase for our textbooks which is kept in the storage room because it's an eyesore. The other bookshelf is in the living room, and it has both of our collections on it.

One book you have read multiple times.
I've only ever reread Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. And I don't technically "reread" I just reread the bits I liked best.

Preferred place to read.
I will read anywhere. On the couch, in bed, on the subway, break room at work. As long as I'm comfy.

Reading regret.
I went through a phase where clutter used to actually make me feel anxious, so I would throw stuff out to avoid having to find new space for it. During this phase I through out almost half of my library. I wish I had kept the books, or at least donated them.

Today I'm introducing the Friday Five! What is the Friday Five, you ask? The Friday Five is simply a list of five things that stood out for me this week. Either things happening in the media, or in the blogesphere, or in my own life.

This week's Friday Five:

1. Cold and flu season is upon us. I've literally been tied to my bed at every possible chance I had. I've been popping Cold FX like Pez and chugging as much OJ as my little bladder can tolerate.

2. Candy Crush. Because I've literally felt like a walking ball of mucus (tmi?) I've spent the majority of my time curled up watching reruns of How I Met Your Mother whilst playing probably the most addicting game ever.

3. The Quarterback episode of Glee. Because having a runny nose isn't enough, I ugly cried throughout the whole episode. It was such a touching tribute to Cory. The writers, along with all of the actors did such an incredible job remembering Cory.

4. This little booger has been really sneaky lately. She woke me up this morning at 7 by practically mauling my face (with love). When she's up, it's time to play. Yesterday I put a sweater down on my bed and not even two minutes later she was taking a snooze on it. #CatLadyProbs

5. Lorde's Royals. This song has literally been stuck in my head all week, and just when it's out, I hear it again. So as part of #backthatazzup Friday, I'm posting it on today's blog so that you too, can have it stuck in your head all. freakin'. weekend.

Hey Monday, you sure creeped up quickly, I haven't seen you in a while. What's new?

It's Monday and I think we're all in need of a good boost, especially with this weather! It's crazy mucky out and cold. And wet. Ew. So today here at Odd One Out, I'd like to introduce you to some new music that might jolt that rainy day blah right out of you.

Obligatory JT plug. Basically if you don't have this album, you're living under a rock. The 14 year old girl in me loves Justin for his adorable NSYNC days, but the 24 year old in me loves Justin because he's a total adult now who legitimately loves his wife. Super cool.

Did you guys know that iTunes does free music downloads? Truth. This week Lorde's single Tennis Court is the music download in The Great White North. For you Americans out there, it's her single Ribs. Check it out, yo.

If you're into Christian tunes, check out Hillsong Young & Free's album. It's got a great electric sound, inspirational lyrics, and for once, they have some pretty rockin' chicks slamming out some real pumped up songs.

Happy Monday, folks! This weekend was a busy one for me as I worked literally 85% of it, and the other 25% was spent on the subway. No one told me that when I moved to Toronto I would need to wear more sensible footwear, I honestly have never had so many blisters in my life!

The light at the end of the tunnel was being able to catch the Emmy's last night with a nice cup of tea. Can we just take a moment to applaud Neil Patrick Harris' musical number in the middle of the show? It was great! Also, when Bob Newhart got a standing ovation and it brought him to tears. Oh! And let's not forgot the amazing dance number choreographed by the nominees of best choreography! I'm a reality TV junkie, so I must acknowledge that!!

Okay, so enough of that. I've been listening to a lot of music this weekend with all of the time that I've been spending on the subway, and I wanted to talk about it today!! Specifically, a great indie band from the land down under, Castlecomer.

I originally found Castlecomer on Youtube at the beginning of the summer while searching for a specific cover of The Lumineers' "Ho Hey". Suddenly I found myself listening to the incredible harmonies of this band (comprised of both family and friends), and falling in love with their sound. Plus, check out those cool filming locations around Sydney!

If you like The Lumineers and Mumford and Sons, you'll probably love Castlecomer, as they have a very similar rock/folk sound, with a bit of an Irish twist. Check out their Youtube page where they have some of their original music, and a lot of really amazing covers. And if you really like them, go ahead and pick up their new EP that was released back in July; it's on iTunes!

I caved. Last week while I was sick with strep throat I was perusing through Netflix trying to figure out which RomCom I should watch when a recommended movie came across my screen. Why this movie was recommended, I don’t know since I’ve never watched any documentaries about musicians on Netflix, but Katy Perry: Part of Me was there, and I was willing; so I clicked it.

What I expected to see was a 2-hour music video. Over-done concert shots and interviews with Katy’s family and friends talking about how much she deserved her success-- nothing with substance. Instead what I found myself watching was a documentary on Katy, and though she has made a brand of herself now, it didn’t come without struggles. What’s more, is that in the midst of her most successful moment, she had to deal with heartbreak as she dealt with the divorce from her husband. I was really surprised with how much I enjoyed the movie. 

On top of that, I hadn’t really listened much to Katy’s music, but that week her new single, “Roar” was released, and well, I’ll let her words speak for themselves:

I have to say, over the last two weeks, I’ve become a fan of Katy. She’s actually a pretty cool gal, and her new song is outstanding. It’s so good, I’m even willing to forgive the fact that she’s dating my future husband.

Okay, so I know he’s got that whole relationship “thing” with Katy Perry, but let’s be honest, fate is fate, and I’m convinced John Mayer is my soulmate. 

He's really feelin' it!

This past Wednesday I had the extreme pleasure of going to John’s concert here in Toronto while he is on his Born and Raised tour. Now, for those of you who are not familiar with John, this is his first tour in over three years so there was a lot of anticipation for this night, and he definitely didn’t disappoint.

The concert had everything it needed, songs from John’s newest album (Born and Raised, y’all) and even songs from his album coming out this week (Paradise Valley). He really felt the music when he played, and I loved how he spent the majority of his concert just jamming with his band. He also did an acoustic set where he played some of his older songs (like Your Body is A Wonderland) and finished out the show by playing Gravity (swoon).

I had a lot of fun hanging out with my cousin. We sat in row 301, and even though we had a ten-foot-tall giant standing in front of us, we managed to work out a system so that both of us could view the beauty that is John Mayer. Also, I never thought I could have heard a rendition of Something Like Olivia quite as awful as i did that night when a group of girls (who had bonded over their love of Bacardi and wine, and had only just met that night), had an impromptu karaoke experience and belted it quite sloppily, and very, very loud. I thought it was funny, but the people in front of us were not so impressed, since the girls kept swinging their arms over their heads. Poor people.

Probably the thing I loved most about the concert was that he took a moment to talk to the crowd and thank them for their loyalty. “You guys have waited a long time, and I’m so thankful that you came," "...for sticking by me when people ask, ‘you like John Mayer?’ I’ve done a lot of not-so-good things in the past and it means a lot that you’ve stuck by me”. He really loves his fans, and he loves his music, and I think it’s really humbling to see that regardless of the tabloids, people still love his music and love him.

I’m excited for his new album, (coming out this Tuesday! yay!) and if you haven’t heard it yet, go sample it on iTunes.

Two blog posts in one day? Crazy! I normally wouldn't blog so often, but the main purpose of this blog was for me to record my life during 2013, so that's exactly what I'm going to do.

I'm Canadian, in case you haven't gotten that, and tonight I went and saw a Canadian group called The Tenors. If you've never heard them, go on YouTube right now and listen to them. Then once you've fallen in love with their voices, go buy their album.

Anyways, it was such an incredible concert, and I wanted to catalogue it I guess so I could look back and remember how much I enjoyed it. They sang classics like Make You Feel My Love, and Hallelujah, as well as some of their own original music. They also brought the house down with a tear-jerking performance of Bring Me Home from Les Miserable (I know, right?) and Nessun Dorma. I honestly had goosebumps the whole evening.

That about says it. Definitely go check out The Tenors, they are so amazing.
